Fulani groups in Niger State have been urged to put aside their political and ideological differences and unite in order to fully benefit from the state government’s initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Fulani herders and communities.
The call was made by Alhaji Hassan Shiroro, Wakilin Fulanin Minna, Garkuwan Wuro-Maliki, and Coordinator of the Bago Ruga Ruga Initiative, during a visit by a delegation of the Fulani Youth Sai Bago Again Organisation to the state secretariat of the Ruga Ruga initiative.
The delegation, led by the organisation’s state chairman Dikko Jobe, and Dr. Mujahid Adam, said the group was established to mobilise and unite Fulani youths across the state in support of the administration of Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago, particularly in efforts to address the long-standing conflict between farmers and herders.
Dr. Mujahid noted that the organisation is committed to supporting the governor's vision of peaceful coexistence, education reform, and socioeconomic empowerment for Fulani communities.
“We recognise the commitment of Governor Bago to promoting peace between farmers and herders, revitalising Fulani education, and improving access to government. We have launched several campaigns including voter card sensitisation, educational scholarships for about 60 Fulani youth, healthcare outreach during the Madako Maulud, and we are planning a life insurance registration campaign for 1,000 Fulani herders and farmers on October 9,” he said.
In response, Alhaji Hassan Shiroro praised the organisation’s proactive approach and described their activities as vital to the development of Fulani communities in Niger State.
“This path you have taken is noble and commendable. My appeal is for all Fulani groups to unite and support the administration of Governor Umaru Bago, especially considering the remarkable step he took by establishing the first-ever Ministry of Pastoral Affairs in Northern Nigeria,” he said.
He further warned against disunity within Fulani groups, noting that while the formation of organisations is welcome, it should not lead to internal divisions.
“We are not against the formation of Fulani-based organisations, but we must not allow such platforms to become sources of disunity. Our collective goal should be the upliftment of Fulani communities, and unity is the only way we can continue to benefit from government initiatives,” he stressed.
He acknowledged the support already being shown by other Fulani organisations such as Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Gan-Allah Fulani Cultural Association, and more recently, the Moggal Pullo Fulbe Association, which was formed last month and has also pledged its support for Governor Bago’s administration.
The visit was attended by key officials of the Fulani Youth Sai Bago Again Organisation, including Deputy Chairman Dikko Jita, Hon. Nasiruddeen Muhammad Jita, and the State Director of Planning and Strategy, Alhaji Shehu Kabir Umar Jita.
