The Zamfara State Government has expressed appreciation to its development partners for their continuous support in alleviating the plight of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and other vulnerable populations across the state.
The commendation was made by the Commissioner for Humanitarian and Relief Matters, Hon. Salisu Musa Tsafe, while speaking at the One-Day Kick-off Meeting on the Lifesaving, Empowerment and Resilience Project (LEARP), held in Abuja.
According to a statement signed by Bashir Kabiru Ahmad, GNIPR, FDMSS, Director of Information, the project is funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and is to be implemented by Première Urgence Internationale (PUI).
Hon. Tsafe described the initiative as a milestone humanitarian intervention that will significantly impact the lives of IDPs and other vulnerable persons, especially women and children, across Zamfara State.
He praised PUI’s consistent collaboration with the Zamfara State Ministry of Humanitarian and Relief Matters and other stakeholders, aimed at improving the well-being of displaced persons and at-risk communities.
The Commissioner also recalled the role of PUI and other partners during the 2025 World Humanitarian Day, which featured critical support for affected populations, awareness campaigns, and a tree-planting exercise—a strategic initiative designed to mitigate the risks of environmental disasters in local communities.
Hon. Tsafe disclosed that thousands of IDPs currently reside in Zamfara State, displaced from over 1,008 communities across its 14 Local Government Areas, as reflected in the State Social Register.
He called on the FCDO, PUI, and other humanitarian actors to extend further support to IDPs and their host communities through livelihood initiatives, empowerment programmes, and multipurpose cash transfers, among other interventions aimed at cushioning the impact of displacement.
The Commissioner further assured that under the leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal, Zamfara State now offers a stable political climate and enabling environment for development partners to operate and implement their interventions effectively.
