The Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST), Dr. Auwal Mustapha Imam, on Wednesday represented the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajuddeen Abbas, at the third edition of the Kaduna Architects Forum (KADAF 3.0) held at Yar’Adua Hall, Murtala Square, Kaduna.
The event, which had as its theme “Innovative Ideas, Sustainable Practices, and the Future of Architecture in Nigeria,” brought together architects, traditional rulers, scholars, and other key stakeholders in the construction and design industry.
Speaking on behalf of the Speaker, Dr. Imam described the theme of this year’s forum as both timely and inspiring, noting that sustainable innovation has become central to global conversations on the built environment.
He said the built environment was witnessing a transformation driven by sustainability imperatives, climate change, and technological advancement.
“In Nigeria, the urgency is even greater as our cities continue to expand rapidly, with growing demand for resilient, affordable, and environmentally responsible infrastructure,” the Speaker said.
Abbas commended the Kaduna State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Architects for organising the forum, describing it as a model of professional foresight aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 9 and SDG 11.
He urged participants to look beyond policies and work towards making Nigeria a more sustainable and livable environment for all.
Highlighting the Speaker’s track record, Dr. Imam said Dr. Abbas had demonstrated strong belief in the role of infrastructure as a foundation for national progress, citing numerous constituency projects in Zaria and Kaduna State that have improved education, healthcare, and road networks.
The Speaker, while applauding the organisers, said the forum reflected the spirit of a new Nigeria — one where vision meets action and innovation drives development.
