The chairmanship candidate of Bosso Local Government Area in Niger State, Hon. Abdullahi Laka, has been advised to steer clear of divisive or discriminatory politics ahead of the forthcoming local government elections.
The warning was issued by the State Director of Programmes of the Fulani Youth “Say Bago Again” Movement, Alhaji Shehu Usman Jita, in a statement signed by the group’s Director of Publicity, Comrade Awwal Umar, on Wednesday in Minna.
According to the statement, the group expressed concern that Hon. Laka appeared indifferent to its members despite their strong support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Umar Mohammed Bago’s administration.
“We, the Fulani community, especially the youth, are not to be taken for granted. We have seen the candidate associate with several groups, yet he has not engaged with ours. We have members across all constituencies in Bosso Local Government, and many who previously lacked voter cards now possess them. However, if this trend of exclusion continues, it may affect the outcome of the elections,” the statement warned.
The group said it was formed to reaffirm its commitment to Governor Bago’s “New Niger Agenda,” which focuses on unity, development, and economic growth in the state.
Alhaji Jita urged members of the Fulani Youth Movement to remain united and committed to supporting democratic reforms initiated by both the state and federal governments.
“We will continue to back the administration of Governor Bago and align with the direction of the state leadership because we have seen the positive impact of this government,” he added.
He also commended members of the group for their role in promoting peace and supporting initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of the Fulani community across Niger State.
The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) is expected to conduct the local government elections in early November, with the APC among the major parties participating.
