The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, says the party’s mission transcends winning power in the 2027 general elections, stressing that its ultimate goal is to build a lasting political legacy anchored on integrity, service, and inclusiveness.

Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja on Tuesday, the former Senate President said the ADC is committed to creating a political institution “bigger than any personality and stronger than any moment.”

“The party is not seeking power for its own sake; we are in a marathon, and we must compete and win. Failure is not an option,” Mark declared.

He described the ADC leadership as pan-African, people-oriented, and problem-solving, adding that the party is designed to serve all citizens, including persons with disabilities, retirees, workers, and other vulnerable groups.

“The conveners of this mission are respected leaders from every corner of our nation who have freely chosen service over comfort. We have set aside narrow interests for the common good,” he said.

“The road will be uphill; sacrifice will be demanded. Those threatened by democracy will resist it, yet we advance—calmly, courageously, together as a formidable team.”

Mark said the ADC’s leadership model will be guided by four key pillars — character, competence, courage, and discipline — which he described as “non-negotiable standards” for those seeking to represent the party at any level.

Unveiling a new political blueprint for the party, the national chairman said the ADC will prioritise citizens first, uphold the supremacy of rules over personalities, ensure transparency through independent annual audits, and promote merit above loyalty.

“Our commitment includes dignity and inclusion for all interest groups — workers, women, youth, farmers, professionals, retired security officers, educators, civil society, and the vulnerable,” Mark said.

He charged the NWC with reviewing the party’s constitution to reflect its new direction and to develop a code of ethics, financing rules, and compliance systems.

Mark also disclosed plans to establish functional ward, local government, and state structures, complete with trained organisers, digital registers, and service desks. A merit-based leadership academy, he added, will be launched to train future party leaders in ethics, communications, and service delivery.

He further stated that ADC will field only credible candidates who meet its leadership standards, while its economic agenda will focus on price stability, productivity, power generation, and food security.

“We will secure our food supply by supporting farmers and agricultural value chains—from inputs and storage to processing and market access,” he said.

Mark reaffirmed that the ADC’s focus is to build a values-driven political movement that outlives its founders and redefines Nigeria’s democratic culture.
