As the Senate resumed plenary on Tuesday, October 7, after a ten-week recess, two Nigerian lawmakers — Senator Abdul Ningi (Bauchi Central) and Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central) — openly expressed their solidarity with the people of Palestine.

In a viral video seen by Daily Struggle, Senator Ningi was spotted wearing a white Ihram-like cloth commonly used by Palestinians and global activists in solidarity demonstrations.

He was seen raising two fingers and chanting “Free Palestine!” four times. His colleague, Senator Aliero, followed, saying: “Although I don’t have an Ihram, I also say Free Palestine!” He repeated the chant four times, joining in the show of solidarity.

The Senate’s symbolic show of solidarity, as Daily Struggle reported, comes at a time of renewed global outrage over Israel’s ongoing blockade and military operations in Gaza.

In recent weeks, large rallies have been held across Europe, Asia, and Latin America in support of Palestine and in condemnation of Israel’s aggressive raids on the Gaza-bound Global Samud Flotilla.

Similarly, Swedish activist Greta Lotilla recently embarked on a campaign to break the naval blockade of Gaza, joining international voices demanding an end to Israel’s decades-long occupation and humanitarian violations.

Nigeria has also maintained its long-standing diplomatic position on the Palestinian cause. Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the recent United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), reaffirmed Nigeria’s support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and a peaceful resolution to the 'conflict'.

Observers say the senators’ actions reflect growing empathy among Nigerians toward the Palestinian struggle and highlight increasing calls for global justice and peace in the Middle East.
