The Zamfara State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced a 6 percent reduction in road crashes recorded in the state compared to the previous year.

Sector Commander Aliyu Ma’aji disclosed this during a press briefing to flag off the 2025 Ember Months Campaign held in Gusau on Monday.

According to Ma’aji, the command recorded 46 road crashes in 2025, compared to 56 incidents documented in 2024 — representing a 6.27 percent decrease.

He explained that in 2024, 51 persons lost their lives, while 259 others sustained injuries, attributing most of the casualties to “mix-loading” — the practice of conveying goods, animals, and passengers in the same vehicle, especially trucks.

Extending the message of the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, Ma’aji said the theme of this year’s campaign — “Take Responsibility for Your Safety: Stop Distracted Driving” — underscores the fact that human factors remain the leading cause of road crashes in the country.

“Drivers are largely responsible for most crashes on our highways. Fatigue, overloading, carrying passengers in haulage vehicles, and transporting fuel in plastic containers are common violations that lead to accidents,” he stated.

The Sector Commander explained that the 2025 end-of-year campaign was carefully themed to address recurring traffic violations and encourage drivers to take personal responsibility for road safety.

He added that the Corps had developed new operational strategies in addition to its routine enforcement measures to ensure the success of this year’s campaign and further reduce road traffic incidents in the state.
