Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the people of Essa community in Katcha Local Government Area over the tragic tanker explosion that claimed several lives and left many others injured.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the governor described the incident as “worrisome, unfortunate, and deeply painful.”
“This is yet another tragic and difficult moment for the people and the state government. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims,” the governor said.
Governor Bago prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
He lamented the recurring incidents of people rushing to scoop fuel from fallen tankers despite repeated public sensitisation campaigns warning against such dangerous acts.
“It is disheartening that some people still risk their lives to scoop fuel from accident scenes. I urge our citizens to value their lives above any material gain,” the governor added.
He commended the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) for its swift response and assured that the state government, through relevant ministries and agencies, would continue to support victims and their families.
Reports indicate that the explosion occurred when residents attempted to scoop fuel from a fallen tanker in Essa community. Several people were confirmed dead, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Bida, for treatment.
