The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Zaria Area Command, has taken fire safety awareness to the football field as part of its Ember Months Campaign, using sports to connect with communities and promote preventive practices.
In a friendly football match held at Chindit Barracks, Zaria, the FFS Zaria Area Command Football Club faced off against Buffalo FC, Depot Nigerian Army, in an encounter aimed at strengthening inter-agency relations and raising public awareness on fire prevention.
The keenly contested match ended in a 1–1 draw, marking the fourth sporting event organised by the Command as part of its ongoing community engagement series.
Beyond the football action, spectators were treated to a fire blanket drill demonstration, designed to educate the public on effective methods for extinguishing kitchen fires and minimising domestic fire incidents.
Speaking after the match, the Head Coach of FFS Zaria FC, AIF Umar Abdullahi, commended both teams for their discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship, noting that the event helped foster unity and public trust in the Fire Service.
He said the campaign aligns with the Service’s commitment to “community-based fire safety education” and youth engagement through sports and social outreach.
Members of the public were reminded that for any fire emergency, they can contact the FFS Zaria Area Command via 0913 370 7880.
