The Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) has appointed Ameerah Hauwa Kulu Abdullahi as its new National Media Officer.
Hauwa Kulu Abdullahi, a former staff member of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), is well known for her contributions to religious, health, and parenting programmes for women, particularly in the Hausa Service.
After her retirement from public service, she served as the Ameerah (leader) of FOMWAN in Niger State, where she organized workshops and sensitization campaigns promoting unity among Muslim women and followers of other faiths. During her tenure, she also initiated vocational training for almajiri students to empower them with skills for self-reliance, in a bid to reduce street begging. She collaborated with international aid organizations to provide healthcare materials and support to beneficiaries.
Ameerah Hauwa further worked closely with the Niger State Ministry of Health and Primary Healthcare Development Agency to sensitize women on key government health policies, emphasizing maternal and child health. She led several workshops on issues such as environmental protection, breastfeeding, and the importance of regular visits to primary health centers for the well-being of children.
Following the completion of her tenure as Niger State Ameerah, she has now been appointed as FOMWAN’s National Media Officer. A seasoned journalist and television presenter, Ameerah Hauwa has developed numerous programmes aimed at educating and entertaining mothers and children.
Born in Magama Local Government Area of Niger State, she is married and blessed with children and grandchildren.
In her appointment letter, the organization urged her to leverage her professional experience to promote FOMWAN’s objectives, enhance its public image, and foster interfaith understanding through effective media engagement.
