The Governing Council of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), Katsina State, has approved the appointment of Prof. Mohammed Khalid-Othman as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

The announcement was made by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Mr. Ali Abubakar Jatau, according to a statement issued on Saturday in Katsina by the university’s Director of Information and Protocol, Mr. Nasiru Abdul.

Abdul said the decision followed the 36th Special Meeting of the Governing Council held in Dutse, Jigawa State, where members considered the report of the Joint Council/Senate Selection Board on the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor.

According to Jatau, the emergence of Prof. Khalid-Othman came after a rigorous selection process that involved 17 shortlisted candidates out of 28 applicants, with three additional nominees identified by the Search Team. He explained that all shortlisted candidates were interviewed, and the top three performers were recommended to the Council, which subsequently approved the appointment.

Born on July 22, 1962, in Bindawa Local Government Area of Katsina State, Prof. Khalid-Othman is an Agricultural Engineer and alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, where he obtained his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees.

He has had a distinguished academic and administrative career, rising through the ranks from Assistant Lecturer to Professor. Before his new appointment, he served as Executive Director of the National Agricultural Extension Research and Liaison Services (NAERLS), ABU, Zaria, and was an internal member of the FUDMA Governing Council representing the Senate.
