In a surprise move aimed at overhauling Nigeria’s security command, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has relieved all Service Chiefs of their duties and announced fresh appointments across the Armed Forces.
According to a statement released on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, General Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa. Major-General W. Shaibu takes over as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke becomes Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas is now the Chief of Naval Staff. The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.
DAILY STRUGGLE gathered that President Tinubu, while expressing gratitude to the outgoing officers for their service and commitment, charged the new military chiefs to raise the bar of professionalism and efficiency within the Armed Forces.
The President emphasized that the changes were made to reinvigorate Nigeria’s national security architecture, ensure better coordination among the services, and strengthen the fight against insecurity across the nation.
The statement added that all appointments take immediate effect.
