The Kautal Pulaaku Association of Nigeria, led by its National President, Dr Muhammad Hussaini Buzaye, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of 43 Fulani pastoralists and the burning of their houses in parts of Kebbi and Niger States.

In a statement issued by the association’s National Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Rt. Hon. Lamido Suleiman Dungal, from its headquarters in Abuja, Kautal Pulaaku, expressed deep concern over the recent attacks allegedly carried out by vigilante groups in several communities across the two states.

According to the statement, vigilante groups in Arewa and Bunza Local Government Areas of Kebbi State have reportedly carried out coordinated assaults on Fulani settlements in villages such as Maini Fulani, Lailaba (Argungu LGA), Bui (Arewa LGA), and Tilli (Bunza LGA). The attacks, which occurred between October 24 and 26, resulted in the killing of 37 people, injuries to several others, and the burning of over 200 houses, with many residents still missing.

The association described the killings as a deliberate attempt to expel Fulani herders from their ancestral lands. It is alleged that the perpetrators came from surrounding communities, including Yeldu, Tunga Bature, Tunga Tsoho, Sangela, and Danmairago.

Similarly, the association lamented another incident in Niger State where six Fulani herders were killed and more than 60 houses were burnt by vigilantes on September 21, 2025, in the villages of Ejjin, Runji, Majina, and Ginshi in Edati Local Government Area. The violence reportedly followed a minor dispute between a herder and a farmer, even after the herder had been taken into police custody.

The Kautal Pulaaku Association commended the Kebbi and Niger State Governments, led by Governors Nasir Idris and Umar Bago, respectively, for their swift intervention in the affected areas. It, however, urged security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The association also expressed concern over the worsening security situation facing Fulani herders, who, it said, are increasingly targeted by bandits, extorted by armed groups, and now attacked by vigilantes.

Dr. Buzaye appealed to members of the public to shun acts of violence and avoid taking the law into their own hands. He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to seeking justice for the victims and promoting peaceful coexistence among all communities.
