The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has confirmed the reappointment of Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, FCNA, FNIIS, FNIM (Katukan Yauri), as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) for another four-year term.
According to a press statement signed by Nura Tanko Wakili, Head of Press and Public Affairs, the confirmation followed the adoption of the report of the Senate Committee on Power, which screened and recommended Yelwa for reappointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Senate commended Yelwa’s exceptional leadership and the remarkable developmental achievements recorded during his first tenure, particularly in hydropower-producing communities.
During his first term, Yelwa was credited with initiating numerous projects and programmes focused on infrastructure, youth and women empowerment, education, health, agriculture, ecological management, and sustainable livelihoods across N-HYPPADEC states.
His reappointment is expected to consolidate the Commission’s ongoing efforts to enhance the living standards of communities affected by hydroelectric power generation and to expand its interventions to more beneficiary areas nationwide.
The development has been widely described as a vote of confidence in Yelwa’s vision, competence, and dedication to improving the welfare of people in Nigeria’s hydropower-producing regions.
