Niger State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, has endorsed the introduction of the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine, which is scheduled for rollout in October 2025 by the Federal Government in collaboration with the Niger State Government and development partners.
Governor Bago made this known during a statewide broadcast in Minna, emphasizing the importance of protecting children from preventable diseases.
He noted that measles and rubella are dangerous illnesses that can cause blindness, deafness, brain damage, heart defects, and even death among children if left unchecked.
The governor assured residents that the MR vaccine is safe, effective, and provides reliable protection against both diseases. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the health and well-being of citizens, particularly children, by ensuring that vaccines are available and accessible across all health facilities in the state.
Governor Bago appealed to parents, guardians, and caregivers to ensure that every child aged 9 months to 14 years receives the lifesaving vaccine during the upcoming immunisation campaign.
He further disclosed that, after the campaign, the MR vaccine will be integrated into the routine immunisation schedule, to be administered to children at 9 months and again at 15 months to strengthen their immunity and safeguard the health of future generations.
The governor also urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, healthcare workers, and community influencers to actively support the campaign to ensure that no child is left behind and that measles and rubella are completely eliminated from Niger State.
