Hundreds of armed bandits have reportedly been killed in a series of coordinated military operations in Ngaski Local Government Area of Kebbi State, following intensified counter-insurgency efforts supported by the state government.

According to a statement from the Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Idris Sadaukin Zuru, the success was achieved through joint operations by troops strategically deployed along the state’s borders with Sokoto, Zamfara, and Niger states.

The statement explained that Governor Nasir Idris had earlier requested the deployment of additional military personnel to reinforce security in border communities prone to attacks. Acting on credible intelligence, troops were positioned around Makurdi village, where they engaged heavily armed bandits attempting to cross into Kebbi from Niger State late on Friday and Saturday.

About 80 bandits were reportedly neutralised during the encounter, with total casualties estimated at over 100. Several motorcycles used by the criminals were recovered, while two abducted persons were rescued. The Director of Security, Abdulrahman Usman, attributed the success to improved coordination and intelligence sharing among security agencies.

The statement added that Governor Idris had provided 100 Hilux vehicles and 5,000 motorcycles to enhance the mobility and operational capacity of security personnel across the state.

Reacting to the development, the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Zayyanu Muhammad, commended the gallant efforts of the troops and lauded the state government for its sustained support in combating insecurity and protecting residents.
