The Jigawa State Government has commenced the bidding process for rural electrification projects worth over ₦1.4 billion across 11 communities in the state.

The exercise, conducted by the State Rural Electrification Board, forms part of the government’s efforts to provide essential infrastructure such as stable electricity. The initiative is expected to boost small-scale industrial activities and stimulate socio-economic development in rural areas.

The projects include the rehabilitation and repair of transformers and power lines in several communities that have been without electricity for more than a decade due to windstorm damage.

Speaking during the bid opening ceremony, the Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Engr. Surajo Musa, reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the contractor selection process. He assured that the government would ensure prompt payment for all verified work while warning that any contractor found violating contractual terms would face sanctions, including contract termination.

Represented by the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Engr. Sani Zubairu Alhaji, the Commissioner called on beneficiary communities to take ownership of the projects by monitoring construction activities, ensuring quality delivery, and safeguarding the facilities against vandalism.

On behalf of the contractors, Engr. Murtala Muhammad Yunusa of SAMMASS Engineering Nigeria Ltd. commended the state government for conducting a transparent bidding process. He pledged that successful contractors would deliver high-quality work, describing them as partners in the state’s development rather than profit-driven entities.
