Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has approved the immediate release of ₦5.8 billion to clear all outstanding gratuity arrears owed to retired public servants in the state.
The Commissioner of Finance, Mohammed Abatcha Geidam, in a statement, said the payment demonstrates the administration’s strong commitment to the welfare of its workforce, particularly those who served the state diligently and have since retired.
According to Daily Struggle, the announcement was made in Damaturu, where the commissioner revealed that the governor has also directed that gratuity payments be included in the state’s monthly financial schedule to ensure prompt disbursement.
He explained that, henceforth, gratuity payments would be made alongside pensions every month to prevent the buildup of arrears and guarantee a stable financial system for retirees. The move has been widely commended by stakeholders as a major step toward improving post-retirement welfare in Yobe State.
