Security experts, analysts, and media practitioners have expressed confidence in Governor Nasir Idris’s initiatives to combat armed banditry in Nigeria, citing the various measures he has implemented to confront the menace.

The summit, organized in Birnin Kebbi by the Arewa Broadcast Media Practitioners Forum in collaboration with the Kebbi State Government, was aimed at addressing existential threats and enhancing national security.

In a statement signed by Abdullahi Idris Sadaukin Zuru, Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to the Kebbi State Governor, it was noted that the summit provided a platform for critical stakeholder engagement.

Declaring the summit open, Governor Idris said he has consistently consulted with key stakeholders, invested resources, and implemented strategies to tackle security challenges, which have facilitated the return of displaced communities. However, he lamented that armed bandits continue to create havoc while transiting across the state, emphasizing that sustained efforts remain necessary.

Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahaman Danbazau, acknowledged the governor’s initiatives and commended the inclusive approach of consulting stakeholders.

The chairman of the occasion, Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, who was attending the state for the third time in two months, pledged continued support for Governor Idris’s efforts, promising meaningful contributions at any relevant events.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Chairman of the Broadcast Media Practitioners Forum, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Yelwa, explained that the summit is part of Governor Nasir Idris’s high-level engagement with the wider Nigerian community in finding solutions to security challenges. He noted that Kebbi State was chosen due to its unique and comprehensive approach to combating insecurity, which combines both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies, as well as its reputation as a hub for strategic dialogue and collaborative governance.

Renowned security experts and analysts presented papers on security and governance, providing recommendations to address the challenges. Speakers included former INEC Chairman Professor Attahiru Jega, former Director of Information, Nigerian Army Major-General Kuka Sheka, Dr. Yahuza Getso, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kashere Professor Umar Pate, and former Kaduna State Commissioner for Security Mr. Samuel Aruwan.
