Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has announced plans to strengthen collaboration with the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) to enhance road transport operations and improve mobility across the state.
The governor, who received members of NARTO’s National Executive Council on a courtesy visit at the Government House, Minna, described the association as a key player in Nigeria’s economic development. He noted that efficient road transport systems are vital for trade, commerce, and the movement of people and goods.
Governor Bago disclosed that his administration is working on establishing well-structured motor parks across the state, where vehicle owners and commercial drivers will be duly registered and monitored. He emphasized that the initiative aims to promote orderliness, safety, and accountability within the state’s transport sector.
According to him, his relationship with NARTO dates back to his days in the banking sector, noting that he has always supported the association’s mission and activities. The governor commended NARTO’s leadership for recognizing his government’s road infrastructure efforts and reaffirmed his commitment to deeper collaboration to deliver the dividends of democracy to Nigerlites.
In his remarks, the National President of NARTO, Alhaji Yusuf Lawal Uthman, lauded Governor Bago’s achievements in road reconstruction, particularly the ongoing works on the Minna–Bida road. He urged the Federal Government to provide alternative routes through Tegina, Kagara, and Birnin Gwari to facilitate effective reconstruction of the major highways.
Alhaji Uthman also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Bago for their continued support of the transport sector, adding that NARTO remains committed to contributing to national development through efficient logistics and transport operations.
