The Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST), Zaria, has launched a fully funded scholarship scheme for 250 students and commenced construction of new male and female hostels to expand access to technical education.
This was contained in a statement issued by Nuhu Bashir Masa, Personal Assistant on Media and Communication to the Director-General of NILEST, Dr. Auwal Mustapha Imam. The announcement followed an official visit by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajuddeen Abbas, PhD, GCON, who performed the ground-breaking ceremony.
According to the statement, the scholarship covers Diploma, National Diploma and Higher National Diploma programmes, with beneficiaries drawn from the eight local government areas of Kaduna North Senatorial District.
During the event, Speaker Abbas told the new students that education remains “the foundation of my success in life,” urging them to remain committed to their studies and contribute meaningfully to national development. He also presented admission letters to some of the beneficiaries.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Environment, Malam Balarabe Abbas; APC Vice Chairman (North-West), Hon. Garba Datti Babawo; Chairman of Zaria Local Government, Engr. Jamil Ahmad Muhammad; representatives of Sabon Gari Local Government; aides to the Speaker; party officials; and traditional and community leaders.
Dr. Imam described the projects as significant milestones for the Institute, noting that the new hostels and scholarship support would enhance learning conditions and reduce financial barriers for students.
The statement added that NILEST remains committed to strengthening technical education and contributing to national industrial development through specialised training and research.
