A Highly Valuable Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between North-Eastern University (NEU) in Gombe and the China Association for Science and Technology, an Overseas Talent Intelligence Alliance of China.

A statement by the North-Eastern University on Friday described NEU's another decisive step on the global stage, the agreement binding both parties under principles of mutual benefit, complementary strengths, and long-term cooperation.

The agreement was concluded in China on November 15, 2025 with NEU's delegation led by the Pro-Chancellor & Founder, Dr. Sani Jauro accompanied by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Sani Isyaka and Mr. Ahmad Jauro Sani, a Lecturer in Cybersecurity.

The MoU was signed on the Chinese side by Mr. Fu Chujian (James), Chairman of Winning Star Group, who represented the China Association for Science and Technology as well as China Overseas Talent Intelligence Alliance.

The statement said that the partnership is strategic, technical, and economically aligned to the objectives of all parties, with major commitments in the agreement that included full training in China for NEU’s best graduates.

Others are One (1) Megawatt Solar Power Project for NEU; Establishment of the ‘Overseas Investment Promotion Station’ at NEU; Scientific Research Commercialization; Two-way Academic and Talent Exchange; and Industrial Support and Investment Matching.

The statement explained that under the agreement, the Association pledged to sponsor and train the first 10 best graduating students of North-Eastern University (NEU) in China, exposing them to cutting-edge Chinese innovation in advanced science and technology fields.

"In a direct boost to the university’s energy security, the Association is committed to establishing a 1MW solar power plant on NEU’s campus. This project will strengthen the university’s teaching, learning, and research environment", it stated.

The agreement authorised NEU to host an official cooperation station dedicated to positioning NEU’s research for commercialisation in China, linking Nigerian innovations to Chinese industry, hosting cross-border investment and technology exchange programs, and serving as the permanent liaison office between both institutions

"NEU will share a catalogue of its mature research and patented technologies in African medicinal plants, agriculture, health, engineering, new energy, ICT, and related fields. China will provide industrial partners, funding channels, and landing platforms, ranging from enterprise partnerships to industry integration".

Also under the partnership, the MoU will establish a long-term mechanism for staff and student mobility, while NEU lecturers and researchers will access Chinese universities, labs, and tech enterprises for training and joint research.

"Chinese experts will similarly visit NEU to deliver lectures, workshops, and technical training. NEU students will gain internship and work-placement opportunities in China’s partner industries. Both sides will explore joint laboratories, research centres, and postgraduate training pipelines".

It further explained that for key projects recognised by both parties, China will coordinate companies to provide funding, commercialisation pathways, and industrial support. NEU will provide technical direction and research leadership.

"This partnership positions NEU not just as a Nigerian institution, but as an emerging African hub for technology exchange, scientific innovation, and cross-border research commercialisation. Truly, a Nexus for Development", the statement concluded.
