The Jigawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has constituted a Membership Revalidation Committee as part of efforts to strengthen professionalism and ensure accurate documentation of journalists in the state. The move follows directives from the National Secretariat of the union.

The initiative aligns with the national body’s commitment to maintaining credible membership records across the country. As part of the nationwide process, the NUJ National Secretariat has launched an online registration platform for journalists, requiring all state councils to revalidate their members across various chapels.

The committee is chaired by Auwal Muhammad Kazaure of the NTA Chapel, with Garba Yakubu of Freedom Radio Dutse, Umar Akilu Majeri of the Correspondents Chapel, Bushira Muhammad Yakasai of FRCN Horizon FM Dutse, Sani Muhammad Gumel of Radio Jigawa, and Alhassan Aliyu of Jigawa Television JTV serving as members. Muhammad Umar Hadejia of the Information Chapel will serve as secretary.

According to the NUJ Jigawa Council, the committee’s mandate is to compile accurate and up-to-date data on registered journalists in the state. The council stressed that the exercise is not aimed at targeting or victimizing any individual but is part of a nationwide effort to update membership records, including those in the Federal Capital Territory.
