Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, on Saturday inaugurated a series of major development projects in Zaria under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Legacy Projects, declaring that the initiatives will reshape the future of the constituency and expand opportunities for young people.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony held at Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, the Speaker said the projects mark the beginning of “a new chapter built on vision and the collective hope of our people,” aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The ceremony is part of a two-day programme dedicated to youth empowerment, skills development, and socio-economic transformation.

Abbas acknowledged the difficult security challenges facing communities across northern Nigeria but stressed that the situation is steadily improving due to what he described as the decisive actions of President Tinubu. He said expanded security recruitment, strengthened police and military operations, and new investments in youth-focused programmes were beginning to address both the symptoms and root causes of insecurity.

He noted that the developmental projects being launched in Zaria are part of a deliberate response to insecurity, explaining that “when young people gain skills, they find work; when they find work, they are less vulnerable to criminal networks; when communities grow, peace becomes stronger.”

The Speaker announced the commencement of construction for several institutions, including the College of Agriculture and Animal Science, which will focus on modern crop production, livestock management and agribusiness to support the region’s economy and enhance food security.

He also launched the Technical and Vocational Training College, expected to train youths in construction, technology, automotive work, welding, and hospitality—skills with direct employment prospects. Additionally, a Sports Academy is set to be established to nurture athletic talent and channel youthful energy into positive development.

Also included in the Renewed Hope Legacy Projects is a Centre for Management Development, intended to provide leadership and administrative training for both public and private sector professionals.

A major milestone in the rollout is the groundbreaking for a Women’s Development Centre. Abbas said the facility will strengthen entrepreneurship, health awareness and economic participation among women, describing them as “the backbone of our families and our communities.”

The Speaker further revealed that new male and female hostels will be constructed at the Nigerian Institute of Leather Science and Technology (NILEST), alongside the launch of 250 fully funded scholarships for students pursuing diplomas and higher diplomas in leather technology. The intervention, he said, will boost a sector with significant industrial potential.

Road development projects across the constituency were also announced, aimed at improving community connectivity, supporting commerce and strengthening security operations.

Abbas emphasised that the new interventions are part of a long-term development strategy for Zaria, building on years of investments in schools, healthcare facilities, skill acquisition centres, boreholes, transformers, roads and federal programmes facilitated through his office.

“Our vision is clear,” he said. “We will consolidate Zaria’s position as Nigeria’s premier centre of learning, build its capacity as a centre of enterprise, and ensure it remains a place of opportunity for every child and every family.”

He urged residents of the constituency to remain hopeful, describing the projects as evidence that “better days are coming,” and reaffirmed his commitment to leaving behind a legacy of growth, peace and opportunity.

The Speaker expressed appreciation to President Tinubu, government agencies, contractors, traditional rulers, youth and women groups, and the people of Zaria for their support.

The event was attended by government officials, community leaders, and representatives of institutions benefiting from the new projects.
