Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law.
The brief ceremony took place at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Minna.
The approved budget amounts to over ₦1.073 trillion, compared to the over ₦1.031 trillion earlier presented by the governor, indicating an upward review. Of the total figure, capital expenditure accounts for more than ₦783 billion, while recurrent expenditure stands at over ₦290 billion.
Governor Bago commended the 10th Niger State House of Assembly for working tirelessly to ensure the timely passage of the 2026 budget. He rated the Assembly highly, saying the speed and cooperation demonstrated by the leadership and members in responding to the needs of the Executive were commendable and reflective of democratic partnership.
The governor also singled out the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Planning, Hajiya Aishat Teni Usman, for praise, acknowledging her and her team’s dedication in preparing the budget document.
He assured that the 2026 budget would be diligently implemented to achieve its intended objectives.
Earlier, the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, commended the governor and his team for presenting what he described as “the best” budget estimate, noting that it was easy to scrutinise, and Ministries, Departments and Agencies fully cooperated during the screening process.
He further applauded the governor’s leadership qualities and reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to continued collaboration with the Executive to advance development in the state.
