President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, popularly known as the Farmer Governor, for appointing women as Vice Chairpersons in all the 25 Local Government Councils of the state.

The President gave the commendation while addressing the 15th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC), held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.

Governor Bago was among APC governors and other key party stakeholders who attended the crucial meeting.

President Tinubu described the governor’s decision as highly commendable and urged other leaders to emulate the initiative by creating more opportunities for women to participate actively in governance.

He further emphasised the need for APC members to remain steadfast in strengthening democratic values across the country, calling on party faithful to be courageous, resilient, and accommodating in their engagements.

The President also reiterated his support for the establishment of state police and urged members of the National Assembly to summon the Inspector-General of Police to examine the framework, safeguards, and possible ramifications of its implementation in order to prevent abuses.

In addition, Tinubu stressed the importance of creating forest guards as part of efforts to tackle terrorism and banditry across the country.

In their separate remarks, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, commended President Tinubu for his historic role in the struggle for the survival of democracy in Nigeria and for his ongoing reforms aimed at reshaping the nation.

They acknowledged his leadership qualities and commitment to democratic principles, and reassured him of their continued support in his drive to transform Nigeria.

The APC National Executive Committee is the party’s highest decision-making body between conventions, bringing together the President, Vice President, National Chairman, members of the National Working Committee, governors, and other key stakeholders to deliberate on party administration, policy direction, and preparations for future elections.
