Shababul Huffazil Quran and Islamic scholars from Gwada town in Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State, have organized a special recitation of the Holy Quran and offered prayers for an end to the insecurity affecting the country, the state, and Shiroro LGA in particular.
Speaking earlier, Special Adviser to the Niger State Governor and State Organizing Secretary of the group, Gwani Abdurrahman Sani, expressed the state government’s appreciation for the prayers, especially efforts aimed at ending the activities of bandits responsible for kidnappings and unrest.
“The initiative, which began under the leadership of the group at the state level, is now being embraced by local governments, which is commendable. We hope that God will accept these prayers,” he said.
The state government also commended Gwani Ibrahim Yusuf for taking the lead in organizing the initiative in Gwada town, noting that Shiroro LGA is among the areas struggling most with insecurity. Sani urged other local governments to emulate this noble effort of praying for the country.
In his remarks, the state chairman of the group, Amb. Gwani Sheikh Hussain Abubakar Shakwata, said Governor Bago takes the group’s activities seriously, often calling on the Huffazil Quran group to offer prayers in times of crisis. He lamented that, despite efforts by the state and federal governments, gunmen recently stormed a school in Papiri town, Agwara LGA, abducting over 300 students. Following the prayers, 100 students were rescued, and authorities remain hopeful that the remaining students will also be freed soon.
Gwani Muhammad Sirajo Shu’aibu, the state youth leader, commended Gwada youth for organizing the Quran recitation and prayers, describing it as a positive initiative. He stressed that parents should teach their children the Quran alongside vocational skills, warning that youth involvement in terrorism often stems from ignorance of religious principles and lack of practical skills.
Sheikh Aliyu Tafida, Tafidan Kadiriya and Director of Da’awa for the group, also commented on societal negligence regarding religious education. He observed that parents often prioritize secular education over religious studies, which he described as a mistake. According to the Sheikh, religious education not only strengthens moral and spiritual development but also complements secular education, giving children a well-rounded upbringing.
Sheikh Aliyu further encouraged the community to engage in good deeds, including charity, citing the Prophet’s teaching that neglecting the needy distances one from the mercy of God. He urged the community to support religious scholars to prevent them from taking the wrong path.
This event, the first of its kind in Gwada town, was attended by senior scholars and traditional rulers from the Shiroro district and marked a significant step in promoting religious and moral education in the area.
