No fewer than 250 residents of Zaria Local Government Area have received financial assistance aimed at enhancing livelihoods and reducing poverty among people in the area.

The intervention, designed to cushion the effects of economic hardship and promote self-reliance, was part of the local government’s efforts to empower residents through targeted financial support.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held at the council secretariat in Zaria, the Chairman of the Local Government, Engineer Jamil Ahmad Muhammad Jaga, said the initiative was the second phase of the empowerment programme aimed at promoting financial independence among residents.

Engineer Jaga explained that the council had earlier distributed similar financial assistance to another batch of 250 beneficiaries, comprising women, youths, and persons with disabilities, to encourage entrepreneurship and productive engagement, particularly in artisan trades.

According to him, beneficiaries received varying amounts of ₦500,000, ₦250,000, and ₦100,000, depending on their areas of engagement.

The chairman commended Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for providing an enabling environment that supports initiatives geared toward improving the livelihoods of residents across the state.

He also appealed for continued support for the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration of President Bola Tinubu, Governor Uba Sani, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajuddeen, assuring that more empowerment programmes were in the pipeline to deliver further dividends of democracy.

Engineer Jaga urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds to improve their socio-economic conditions and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.
