The newly posted Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Vungmoh S. M Kwaimo, in charge of Zone 12, comprising Bauchi and Gombe States, has pledged to decisively clamp down on crime and criminality within the zone.
AIG Kwaimo made the pledge on Tuesday while assuming office at the Zone 12 Headquarters in Bauchi, becoming the 31st Assistant Inspector-General of Police to oversee the zone.
He succeeded AIG Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, who retired from the Nigeria Police Force after attaining the mandatory retirement age, following years of meritorious service to the nation.
Addressing officers and men of the command, AIG Kwaimo emphasised that his posting was a call to service, urging personnel to give him maximum cooperation to achieve the shared goal of ensuring peace and security in Bauchi and Gombe States.
"I did not post myself here. The Police posted me to Bauchi and Gombe to work, and I am here to serve," he said.
The AIG warned that he would not tolerate indiscipline, absenteeism from duty without permission, corruption, or involvement in any form of illegal activity, stressing that professionalism and respect for the law must guide officers' conduct.
He also called on officers to respect religious differences and relate professionally with members of the public, noting that policing must be people-oriented.
"We will surmount every challenge and ensure that policing is attractive. Officers must know their audience and be conversant with the laws of the Federation, Police Acts, and regulations," he stated.
AIG Kwaimo stressed the importance of effective supervision, urging senior officers to closely monitor their subordinates to ensure assigned duties are properly carried out.
"Supervision is very important. You don't send someone to work and go to sleep. You must check to ensure the job is done correctly," he added.
The Zone 12 Police boss assured officers of improved welfare, promising that no entitlement due to any officer would be denied, as this would enhance their ability to discharge their constitutional responsibilities effectively.
He reiterated his unwavering commitment to service and appealed for total cooperation to protect lives and property across the zone.
AIG Kwaimo also called on members of the public to promptly report suspicious movements or activities capable of breaching law and order, assuring them that the police would respond swiftly and professionally. "I am always ready to make myself available whenever issues arise," he assured.
He commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for finding him worthy of the appointment and pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him through dedicated and result-oriented policing.
Residents of Bauchi and Gombe States were assured of enhanced security under his leadership.
AIG Vungmoh S. M Kwaimo was born on December 25, 1966, and hails from Garkawa District, Mikang Local Government Area of Plateau State.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, obtained in 1988. He was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on May 18, 1992, and trained at the Police Academy Annex, Kaduna.
Throughout his distinguished career, he has served in various operational, investigative, and administrative roles across Jigawa, Kebbi, Abia, Bayelsa, Taraba, Borno, Adamawa States, the FCID Annex, Alagbon, INTERPOL, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He also served as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Provost, Force Headquarters, Abuja, and was later Commissioner of Police in the Departments of Operations and Logistics and Supply, as well as Commissioner of Police, Railway Command, Lagos.
AIG Kwaimo attended numerous professional courses within and outside Nigeria, including a Money Laundering and Fraud-Related Course in the United States in 2006.
