Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has expressed deep sadness over the recent terrorist attack on several communities in Borgu Local Government Area of the state.
The Governor, popularly known as the “Farmer Governor,” conveyed his condolences through his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, describing the attack as cruel and nefarious. The incident reportedly resulted in the death of several persons, the abduction of others, and the destruction of livelihoods.
Governor Bago extended his deepest sympathy to the people of the affected communities, particularly the victims and their families.
According to the statement, victims of the attack at Kasuwan Daji Market in Sukumbara Village included both Muslims and Christians drawn from different communities within Borgu Local Government Area.
The Governor noted that it was disturbing and unfortunate to begin the year with such tragic incidents. He, however, urged residents to remain resolute in faith, assuring them that his administration is working closely with the Federal Government and security agencies to strengthen security in the affected areas.
He disclosed that a joint security task force has been deployed and is currently trailing the perpetrators with a view to rescuing the kidnapped victims.
Governor Bago also offered prayers for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives, the safe rescue of those abducted, speedy recovery for the injured, and the restoration of livelihoods destroyed during the attack.
