Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has earned widespread commendation for his bold and transformative agricultural policies aimed at repositioning the state’s economy and enhancing food security.
The accolades were showered on the governor at the official launch of the Sustainable Integrated Productive Communities (SIPC) Programme, a collaborative initiative between the Niger State Government and the Federal Ministry of Finance, held in Abuja.
Speakers at the event described Governor Bago—popularly known as the Farmer Governor—as an innovative, progressive and dynamic leader whose administration is steadily transitioning Niger State from subsistence farming to mechanised, large-scale agricultural production.
They noted that the governor’s agricultural vision aligns with global best practices and the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in promoting food security, inclusive growth and climate resilience.
The forum highlighted Governor Bago’s strategic drive to harness Niger State’s vast agricultural potential to attract both local and international investments across critical value chains, including rice, sugar, maize, livestock production and climate-smart agriculture. According to speakers, these partnerships are laying a solid foundation for a resilient and diversified state economy.
Participants further observed that the governor’s governance approach is repositioning Niger State as a national reference point for leveraging agriculture as a catalyst for industrial growth, sustainable communities and economic development.
Expressing confidence in the SIPC initiative, speakers said Niger State’s comparative advantages—its expansive arable land, abundant water resources, favourable climate and sizeable labour force—place it in a strong position to successfully implement the programme.
They added that the SIPC initiative, designed to promote food security, mass housing, inclusive economic growth and sustainable livelihoods within agric-linked communities, is expected to deliver significant socio-economic benefits to the state.
The launch of the SIPC Programme was widely hailed as another milestone in Governor Bago’s agricultural transformation agenda, reinforcing his commitment to unlocking Niger State’s potential and delivering long-term prosperity for its people.
