The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the media following a courtesy visit to the Niger State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Minna.

The Head of Press and Public Affairs of the Commission, Alhaji Nura Tanko Wakili, led the delegation to the NUJ Secretariat at the IBB Pen House on Friday, where he met with the State Council Chairman, Comrade Abu Nmodu, PhD.

Speaking during the visit, Alhaji Wakili said the engagement was aimed at consolidating the existing cordial relationship between N-HYPPADEC and the NUJ, while also appreciating journalists in the state for the sustained publicity and visibility accorded to the Commission’s programmes and interventions.

He подчеркed the pivotal role of the media in ensuring timely, accurate and effective dissemination of information, noting that journalists remain critical partners in communicating the Commission’s mandate and development initiatives to the public.

According to him, as a development-oriented intervention agency, N-HYPPADEC places high value on transparency, accountability and public engagement, stressing that sustained partnership with the NUJ is essential to keeping host communities and other stakeholders adequately informed about its projects and activities.

In his response, the Niger State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Abu Nmodu, PhD, expressed appreciation to the Commission for its continued support to the union, particularly the connection of the IBB Pen House to a 33KVA power line, which he described as a significant boost to the operational efficiency of the journalists’ secretariat.

Comrade Nmodu also appealed to N-HYPPADEC to consider landscaping the frontage of the Pen House to further improve its outlook and environment.

He assured the Commission of the NUJ’s commitment to providing fair, balanced and deserved publicity for its activities, while also urging N-HYPPADEC to extend patronage to state-owned media organisations, in line with its engagement with other media platforms.

The NUJ Chairman further requested that the delegation convey the union’s appreciation to the Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC for his consistent support to the media, noting that such gestures foster mutual trust and enhance effective development communication.
