In a strategic effort to reposition the information architecture of Niger State, the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Obed Nuhu Nana, has commenced a two-day familiarisation visit to agencies under the Ministry, beginning with Newsline Newspaper and Niger State Television (NSTV).

The visit underscores the state government’s renewed commitment to collaboration, professionalism, and effective public communication in line with the vision of the present administration.

The Commissioner was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Uthman Baba; the Director of Information Services, Mallam Yunusa Saidu Ibrahim; and the Director of Administration, Hajiya Salamatu K. Mohammed. The tour reflects a hands-on leadership approach aimed at understanding operational realities, engaging directly with media practitioners, and charting a forward-looking path for state-owned media institutions.

In a press statement signed by the Information Officer of the Ministry, Halimatu Sadiya Mohammed, the one-day visit commenced at Newsline Newspaper, the flagship print medium of the Niger State Government.

At Newsline, Hon. Nana interacted warmly with the management and staff, commending their resilience and dedication to public information dissemination despite the prevailing challenges confronting the media industry.

He stressed the enduring relevance of print media as a credible platform for documenting government policies, programmes, and people-oriented initiatives. According to him, newspapers remain a vital pillar in promoting accountability, preserving institutional memory, and deepening public understanding of governance.

The Commissioner assured the Newsline team of the Ministry’s commitment to providing the necessary support to enhance professionalism and improve content delivery, calling for renewed zeal, innovation, and strict adherence to ethical journalism in service to the public.

The familiarisation tour later moved to Niger State Television (NSTV), where a similar atmosphere of engagement prevailed. Hon. Nana inspected facilities, interacted with staff across departments, and assessed the operational challenges facing the station.
He urged the workforce to remain steadfast in upholding professionalism, objectivity, and the timely dissemination of accurate information. Emphasising the influential role of broadcast media, the Commissioner noted that television remains a powerful tool for shaping public perception, educating citizens, and fostering trust between the government and the governed.

He further highlighted the need for continuous improvement, technological adaptation, and content that reflects the developmental strides of the state while amplifying the aspirations of the people.
Hon. Nana explained that the familiarisation visit forms part of a broader strategic engagement aimed at fostering synergy among agencies under the Ministry, identifying critical areas for improvement, and aligning their operations with the developmental vision of the Niger State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Farmer Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago.

As the two-day tour continues with visits to other agencies, the exercise stands as more than a routine inspection. It signals purposeful leadership that recognises the media as a strategic partner in governance and development.

By engaging directly with those who shape the state’s narrative, the Honourable Commissioner has set the tone for a more responsive, professional, and people-focused information sector—one poised to strengthen democratic communication and amplify good governance in Niger State.
