The Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) has taken delivery of over 58,000 textbooks as part of efforts to improve teaching and learning in public basic schools across the state.

The instructional materials were procured under the 2024 Federal Government/Universal Basic Education Commission (FGN/UBEC)/NSUBEB Counterpart Funding arrangement and supplied by New Generation Books.

The textbooks were formally received by the Executive Chairman of NSUBEB, Dr Ibrahim A. Liman, who took delivery on behalf of the Board. He was accompanied by the Board’s Secretary, Associate Professor Aminu Wushishi; Director of Finance, Mallam Yahya Santali; and other senior officials.

Speaking during the exercise, Dr Liman disclosed that the consignment comprises 20,271 copies of Early Childhood Care Development Education (ECCDE) textbooks for Classes 1, 2 and 3 in core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. He added that an additional 38,000 copies of Primary 1, 2 and 3 textbooks for English Language and Mathematics were also delivered, bringing the total to over 58,000 copies.

The NSUBEB Chairman described the development as a major milestone in the Board’s drive to strengthen basic education, noting that the availability of relevant and adequate instructional materials is critical to effective teaching and learning.

According to him, the intervention will enhance classroom engagement, strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy skills, and improve overall learning outcomes among pupils in public basic schools across the state.

Dr Liman said the initiative aligns with the New Niger Agenda and the state government’s commitment to providing sustainable, inclusive and quality education. He commended Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for his consistent support to the education sector, particularly the timely release of counterpart funds that has enabled the state to access UBEC interventions.

He noted that the governor’s proactive approach to education financing has translated into tangible gains, including improved infrastructure, enhanced learning resources and broader sectoral development.

The NSUBEB Chairman assured stakeholders that the Board would ensure transparency and accountability in the distribution of the textbooks, stressing that they would be equitably distributed to schools across the state to reach the intended beneficiaries.

He reaffirmed NSUBEB’s commitment to sustained collaboration with UBEC and other stakeholders to further strengthen basic education delivery and improve learning standards in Niger State.
