The Kebbi State Government has fixed February 4 to 7, 2026, for the 5th edition of the Yauri Rigata and Cultural Festival in Yauri Emirate.

The National Chairman of the festival and Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, disclosed this at a press conference held in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, to formally announce the commencement of activities for the event.
Alhaji Tafida said the festival will feature a Trade Fair Exhibition, Agricultural Show, Cultural Performances, Water Sports, and the Rigata main event, spanning four days from Wednesday, February 4, to Saturday, February 7, 2026.

He explained that Rigata is a Gunganci word meaning “marine war,” and in its social context, it signifies buoyancy and prestige. According to him, the festival dates back over 200 years and originated as a demonstration of the naval strength of the Gungu people, when warriors boarded canoes of various sizes, armed with different weapons, to confront dangerous hippopotamuses in the River Niger.

Tafida noted that this year’s festival, like previous editions, has been carefully packaged to feature a range of spectacular and thrilling events aimed at showcasing the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the people of Yauri Emirate.

He also expressed appreciation to the Kebbi State Government under the leadership of Governor Dr. Nasir Idris for its continued support and commitment to ensuring the successful hosting of the festival.
