Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has commissioned the 22-kilometre Pambeguwa–Kahutu–Kauru asphaltic road, bringing long-awaited relief to communities that had endured poor access for nearly 50 years.

The newly completed road, which includes a span bridge linking Kubau and Kauru local government areas, was inaugurated on Tuesday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Sani recalled that when he flagged off the project on August 27, 2024, the journey from Pambeguwa to Kauru took about one hour. He noted that with the completion of the road, the same trip now takes less than 12 minutes.

According to the governor, Kauru was among 12 local government areas that had not benefited from a single road project in the past 12 years. He said successive administrations acknowledged the importance of the route and made attempts to construct it, but the project remained unfinished for various reasons.

“When we broke ground for this road on August 27, 2024, we made a solemn commitment to the people of these communities. Today, we return not with explanations or excuses, but with a completed project that speaks for itself,” he said.

“This moment underscores a defining principle of our administration: promises made to the people must be promises kept.”

Governor Sani also pledged to construct township roads in Kauru and to address the nearly 20-year electricity blackout in the area caused by lack of power supply.

He said that since assuming office, his administration has embarked on an extensive infrastructure renewal programme across the state.

“We have initiated the construction of 140 roads spanning over 1,335 kilometres across Kaduna State’s three senatorial zones,” he said.

The governor explained that the projects were selected based on data and equity, with the aim of correcting long-standing imbalances in access and opportunity. He added that while many of the roads have been completed and commissioned, others are at various stages of completion.

Governor Sani said the Pambeguwa–Kahutu–Kauru road would serve as a reliable alternative route, easing pressure on congested corridors, reducing travel time and transport costs, and improving safety.

He added that emergency services, students, farmers and traders would benefit from improved access to markets and essential services.

The governor further explained that the road was deliberately routed through agriculturally productive communities to ease the movement of farm produce to aggregation centres, processing facilities and consumption hubs.

“In doing so, we are enhancing the competitiveness of our farmers and improving value addition along the agricultural value chain,” he said.
