A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alwan Hassan, has raised concerns over alleged internal sabotage within the ruling party, warning that some governors and ministers do not genuinely support President Bola Tinubu.

Hassan made the remarks on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Tuesday, where he expressed fears about the President’s political future ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the greatest threat to Tinubu’s re-election bid may not come from opposition parties but from within the APC itself.

“A lot of ministers and governors in our party do not have President Tinubu at heart. They don’t like him for who he is; they want him for what he is,” he said.

He described the situation as a reflection of political opportunism, alleging that some influential figures in the party are more interested in personal gain than in supporting the administration or ensuring its success.

Hassan further warned that any major political setback Tinubu may face could stem from internal sabotage by close associates.

Speaking on the prospects of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in 2027, he downplayed external threats, insisting that internal divisions within the APC pose a greater risk.

“It is our own self and the way we treat our own people that is making me scared of the election. The sabotage will happen from within,” he added.

Drawing parallels with the events leading to the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 Nigerian general election, Hassan said internal disloyalty played a significant role.

“This was the same thing that happened to Jonathan. We used a lot of Jonathan’s people to win elections against him. That is the same thing that is happening today,” he said.

He maintained that some APC power brokers are outwardly loyal while allegedly working behind the scenes to undermine the President’s political standing.
