The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has commenced the registration of new members in Niger State as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s structure ahead of future political activities.

Speaking during the launch of the exercise, a member of the MMR National Committee, Barrister Maibasira, urged individuals interested in contesting for political offices under the ADC platform to ensure they first register as members of the party.

He said the movement was built on unity, noting that members from different political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), had joined forces under the ADC.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the committee overseeing the exercise in Niger State, Rt. Hon. Baba Shehu Agaie, said registration materials would be distributed to party leaders elected from the 25 local government areas of the state along with their secretaries.

According to him, prospective members can register either online or through direct physical registration, adding that the compiled register of members would eventually be submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Agaie explained that committees of ten members had been constituted in each local government area to coordinate the registration exercise, while similar committees would also be set up at the ward level to ensure the work is completed on time.

In his remarks, the Niger State Chairman of the ADC, Alhaji Musa Hassan, acknowledged that the party had earlier faced leadership challenges in the state but said elders within the party had intervened to restore unity and reposition the party for progress.

He said one of the major achievements of the current leadership was bringing together members from various political parties under a common platform, adding that the registration of members marked the next stage in consolidating the party’s growth.
Hassan called on residents of the state to join the ADC, describing it as a platform open to all individuals willing to contribute to the development of the state and the country.

Meanwhile, a former PDP candidate for the Niger North Senatorial District, Hon. Abdullahi Shehu Mohammed, who recently defected to the ADC, criticised the ruling APC, accusing it of poor governance and failing to address insecurity and economic challenges in the country.

He urged citizens to register with the ADC and support the party in its efforts to bring about political change.

Mohammed also called on party supporters to remain vigilant during future elections and ensure their votes are protected.
