The Federal High Court in Kaduna has adjourned the hearing of the bail application filed by former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to Wednesday.
The adjournment followed proceedings on Tuesday conducted under heavy security presence, reflecting heightened public interest in the case.
Counsel to the former governor, Ukpong Akpan, confirmed the development shortly after the sitting but declined to give further details, noting that legal processes were still ongoing.
El-Rufai is standing trial before Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa on a 10-count charge bordering on alleged conversion, unlawful possession of public property and money laundering.
The former governor was brought before the court after spending over a month in detention, a development that has drawn national attention. The court had earlier fixed March 31, 2026, for the hearing of all pending applications, including his bail request.
He was, however, granted temporary release on March 27 on compassionate grounds following the death of his mother, Hajiya Ummar El-Rufai, in Cairo.
In a related development, El-Rufai was also arraigned on the same day before the Kaduna State High Court sitting in Kawo alongside one Amadu Sule on separate charges, including alleged abuse of office, fraud, attempted fraud and conferring undue advantage.
The charges at the State High Court are distinct from those filed at the Federal High Court.
With the latest adjournment, hearing on the bail application is expected to resume on Wednesday.
