The Federal Government has secured acceptance from at least 10 countries for ambassador-designates appointed by President Bola Tinubu, with approvals from other host nations still pending.

The countries that have granted approval include the United Kingdom, France, United States, Ireland, Qatar, Benin, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Senegal and Sierra Leone.

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, disclosed this while noting that the process of securing agrément from other countries is ongoing.

“I wish to inform you that the process of receiving agreements from the countries the ambassadors-designate are posted to is ongoing,” Ebienfa said, adding that approvals had already been received from the listed countries, among others.

He also announced that 19 officers of the Nigerian Foreign Service have been elevated to the rank of Ambassadors-in-Situ, describing the development as a significant milestone in their diplomatic careers.

According to him, the date for their formal induction ceremony will be announced once it is finalised and confirmed by the Presidency.

Speaking on behalf of the honourees, Ambassador Suleiman Ousman expressed appreciation to the Federal Government, pledging that the newly elevated ambassadors would serve with integrity, professionalism and commitment to Nigeria’s national interests.

The investiture ceremony was presided over by former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and attended by senior government officials and other public office holders.
