Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has pledged to provide ambulances, establish accident and emergency units, and increase manpower and staff accommodation at the Garatu and Kataergi Level II Primary Health Care Centres in Bosso and Katcha Local Government Areas.
Bago, popularly known as the “Farmer Governor,” made the pledge during separate inspection visits to the health facilities, where he interacted with staff and community stakeholders.
The governor noted that the two primary health care centres are strategically located along major highways, stressing the need to equip them adequately to enhance service delivery, particularly in handling emergency situations.
During the visit, Bago directed his Deputy Chief of Staff, Sadiq Yusuf, and the Chairman of Bosso Local Government Council, Usman Laka, to ensure the immediate construction of drainage around the Garatu Level II Primary Health Care Centre to prevent flooding of the facility during the rainy season.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing quality and affordable healthcare services across the state.
The governor also urged health workers and members of the host communities to take ownership of the facilities and ensure their proper maintenance, while encouraging pregnant women to make use of the centres for antenatal services.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman of the Ward Development Committee, Mohammed Ishiaku Doma, and the Officer-in-Charge of the Garatu Level II Primary Health Care Centre, Hajiya Kuluwa Mallam, commended the governor for constructing the facility, noting that it has significantly improved healthcare access in the community.
They, however, appealed for additional support, including the provision of drainage, an ambulance, and more health personnel.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Murtala Bagana, expressed satisfaction with the governor’s inspection of the facilities, noting that the visit would boost the morale of health workers and strengthen accountability in the system.
