Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has flagged off the distribution of 20,000 bags of rice donated by the Aliko Dangote Foundation as Ramadan palliative to support vulnerable residents across the state.
The flag-off ceremony took place on Monday at the Dr. Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu Square, Government House, Bauchi.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Mohammed Auwal Jatau, described the gesture as timely and commendable, particularly as Muslims observe the holy month of Ramadan.

He commended the Dangote Foundation for its continued support to vulnerable communities in Bauchi State and for partnering with the state government to provide relief to residents during critical periods.

“The Dangote Foundation has over the years shown remarkable dedication to humanitarian causes, and we deeply appreciate its decision to partner with the Bauchi State Government to provide succour to our people at different times, particularly during this blessed month of Ramadan,” he said.

Mohammed noted that the collaboration between the foundation and the state government underscores the importance of partnerships between the public and private sectors in addressing social challenges and improving citizens’ welfare.

According to him, the rice palliative will help ease the burden on many households and enable families to observe the fasting period with greater comfort and dignity.

The governor recalled that since assuming office in 2019, his administration had implemented several palliative programmes to cushion the effects of economic hardship and other challenges facing residents of the state.

He also commended the efforts of the State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management for coordinating the distribution of relief materials across the state, particularly during festive periods.

Mohammed urged officials involved in the exercise to ensure fairness, transparency and proper coordination so that the assistance reaches the intended beneficiaries, including the poor, elderly persons, widows and people living with disabilities.

He reassured residents that his administration remains committed to improving their welfare through programmes and policies aimed at promoting social protection, reducing hardship and enhancing living standards.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajara Yakubu Wanka, said the donation forms part of the Aliko Dangote Foundation’s nationwide humanitarian programme covering all 36 states of the federation.

According to her, Bauchi State received 20,000 bags of 10-kilogram rice, which will be distributed to beneficiaries across the state.
