Political stakeholders in Bauchi State have described Governor Bala Mohammed’s continued membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as crucial to the survival of Nigeria’s opposition.
This position was advanced by a coalition of over 50 political groups known as the Kauran Bauchi Political Concern Group, which warned that any defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) could create a vacuum in opposition politics.
Speaking through its Chairman, Comrade Raiyyan Adamu, the coalition argued that Mohammed’s influence now transcends Bauchi State, positioning him as a national figure in Nigeria’s democratic discourse.
The group further linked his rising political profile to his consistency in opposition politics, noting that it strengthens his prospects as a potential presidential contender.
It maintained that preserving his political identity outside the ruling party is essential for both his ambition and the country’s democratic plurality.
“Your Excellency, you are a man of your word. As you have previously stated, no amount of pressure will make you leave the PDP for the APC.
“Please strive to uphold the principles of your political role models, Malam Sa’adu Zungur and Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, in order to preserve your status as one of the most respected and outstanding politicians in Northern Nigeria.
“That is why many religious leaders continue to commend and pray for you, because you represent the interests of the common man,” the group said.
The coalition concluded by urging the governor to disregard calls for defection, describing such appeals as contrary to the interests of both the state and the nation.
