President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the diplomatic postings of Reno Omokri, former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode, and former Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (retd.), among 65 ambassadors designated to represent Nigeria abroad.
The trio are part of the 34 non-career ambassadors confirmed by the Senate in December 2025. Omokri has been posted to Mexico City, Mexico, Fani-Kayode to Germany, and Dambazau to Beijing, China.
A statement issued on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the appointments form part of a broader diplomatic reshuffle, which also includes 31 career ambassadors to various countries and international organizations, including the United Nations.
Other notable non-career postings include Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Prof. Isaac Adewole to Ottawa, Canada, and former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (retd.), to the Philippines.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received agrément from the United Kingdom for High Commissioner-designate Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, and from France for Ambassador Ayodele Oke. The ministry has also submitted the nominations of the remaining envoys to their host countries and requested agrément following standard diplomatic procedure.
President Tinubu has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to commence the induction programme for all ambassadors-designate and High Commissioners ahead of their deployment.
