President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors to Nigeria’s foreign missions, comprising 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career envoys.
The ambassadors-designate, who were confirmed by the Senate in December last year, will represent Nigeria in various countries and multilateral institutions, including the United Nations.

A statement issued on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the postings are part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement and international relations.

Among the non-career ambassadors, former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has been posted to Germany, while former Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, will serve in Ottawa, Canada. Former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, is posted to the Philippines, while former Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (retd.), will represent Nigeria in Beijing, China.

Also on the list are former presidential aide Reno Omokri, who has been assigned to Mexico City, Mexico; Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, who will serve as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations; and former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Ayodele Oke, who is posted to France.

Other non-career appointments include Senator Grace Bent to Togo, Senator Ita Enang to South Africa, Victor Ikpeazu to Spain, Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu to Tel Aviv, Israel, and Mahmoud Yakubu to Qatar.
In the career category, Ambassador Ahmed Mohammed Monguno has been posted to Cairo, Egypt, while Ambassador Abdussalam Habu Zayyad will serve in Dakar, Senegal. Ambassador Haidara Mohammed Idris has been assigned to The Hague in the Netherlands, and Ambassador Muhammad Saidu Dahiru will represent Nigeria in New Delhi, India.

Similarly, Ambassador Hamza Mohammed Salau has been posted to Tehran, Iran; Ambassador Ibrahim Danlami to Kenya; Ambassador Bako Adamu Umar to Rabat, Morocco; and Ambassador Segun Ige to Beirut, Lebanon.

The Presidency said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received agrément from the United Kingdom for the High Commissioner-designate, Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, while the French government has also granted agrément for Ambassador Ayo Oke.

According to the statement, the ministry has conveyed the nominations of the remaining 62 envoys to their respective host countries and requested agrément in line with standard diplomatic procedures.

President Tinubu has also directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately commence the induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and high commissioners ahead of their deployment.
