Tazkiyah University, Zaria, Kaduna State, has matriculated its first batch of 120 students, marking a significant milestone in the advancement of women’s education in Nigeria and across the Sub-Saharan region.
The matriculation ceremony, held earlier this week, attracted dignitaries from various sectors, including traditional rulers and heads of academic institutions from different parts of the country.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Faruk Sarkinfada, described the university as a specialised institution dedicated exclusively to women’s education. He said the institution aims to empower women through the provision of quality education across disciplines such as science and technology, business, and the humanities.
According to him, the university is committed to breaking existing barriers and nurturing future leaders equipped with sound knowledge and strong moral values to drive meaningful societal change.
He further stated that the institution aspires to become a centre of excellence, producing highly skilled graduates capable of competing on the global stage, while contributing to economic growth and national development.
Tazkiyah University currently offers programmes in Health Sciences, Management Sciences, and Computer Science. Courses available include nursing, public health, accounting, economics, computer science, and cybersecurity, among others.
In his remarks, the founder of the university, Professor Ibrahim Ahmed Maqari, expressed gratitude to God and all those who contributed to the establishment of the institution, noting that the achievement was made possible through collective effort and determination.
He congratulated the students on their admission as pioneer students and urged them to remain disciplined and adhere strictly to the institution’s rules and regulations.
The support of the Emir of Zazzau toward the establishment of the university was also acknowledged, with assurances of continued collaboration for its development.
The ceremony ended peacefully, with students advised to be law-abiding and maintain high standards of conduct throughout their academic pursuit.
