Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, pending confirmation by the Senate.
The nomination, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, has been formally transmitted to the National Assembly in line with constitutional provisions.
Mr Tegbe’s nomination follows the resignation of the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.
A native of Oyo State, Tegbe is described as a fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience across both public and private sectors. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led initiatives in fiscal policy reform, institutional transformation, and governance.
He has also advised government institutions and private organisations on strategic reforms, regulatory frameworks, and investment structuring.
Currently, Tegbe serves as Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he oversees efforts to strengthen bilateral development cooperation between Nigeria and China, including coordination of engagements aligned with the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) objectives.
The statement noted that Tegbe has been involved in key reforms within Nigeria’s power sector, particularly in regulatory and institutional frameworks involving agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
According to the Presidency, the nomination is expected to bolster ongoing efforts to reform the power sector, improve grid stability, and attract sustainable investment in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the minister-designate, if confirmed, would deploy his extensive expertise to drive critical reforms and deliver improved outcomes for Nigerians in the electricity sector.
