President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renewal of Professor Idris Muhammad Bugaje’s appointment as Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for a second and final term of five years.
The decision was announced in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who noted that Bugaje was first appointed on March 14, 2021.
According to the Presidency, the renewal follows a comprehensive review of Bugaje’s performance, leadership, and contributions to the transformation of Nigeria’s technical and vocational education and training (TVET) sector.
The statement highlighted key achievements recorded under his leadership, including the strategic repositioning of the TVET ecosystem, extensive curriculum modernisation, and the development and review of over 100 national curricula aligned with global skills demands.
“These reforms are in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda for education,” the statement added.
President Tinubu, while reaffirming confidence in Bugaje’s leadership, urged him to consolidate ongoing reforms and ensure the completion of critical initiatives in the sector during his second tenure.
The NBTE plays a central role in regulating and promoting technical education in Nigeria, a sector increasingly seen as vital to addressing unemployment and bridging the country’s skills gap.
