The Confederation of APC Support Groups has declared its support for former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, describing him as the most suitable candidate to represent the district in the National Assembly ahead of the next election cycle.
Speaking at a press briefing, the Director General of the group, Prof. Kailani Muhammad, said the people of Kaduna Central needed “a voice that roars for the common man” rather than a representative disconnected from grassroots realities.
Addressing journalists and supporters, Muhammad said the endorsement followed what he described as Shehu Sani’s record of “courage, accountability, and empathy” during his tenure in the Senate between 2015 and 2019.
According to him, communities across Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Igabi, Chikun, Kajuru, Kaduna North and Kaduna South still remember the former lawmaker for projects and interventions carried out during his time in office.
He said Shehu Sani distinguished himself nationally as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, where he opposed a proposed 350 million dollar World Bank loan sought by the Kaduna State Government, arguing that the state’s debt profile was unsustainable.
Muhammad also praised the former senator for publicly disclosing lawmakers’ salaries and running costs while serving in the Senate, describing the move as a landmark step toward transparency and accountability in governance.
The APC support group further highlighted several constituency projects allegedly facilitated by Shehu Sani during his tenure, including the construction and equipping of primary healthcare centres in rural communities, installation of solar-powered boreholes and hand-pump wells, and distribution of solar streetlights across parts of Kaduna Central.
Other achievements listed included classroom construction and renovation projects, empowerment programmes for youths and women through the distribution of sewing machines, motorcycles and grinding machines, as well as welfare support for widows, orphans and internally displaced persons.
On security, the group claimed the former senator provided patrol vehicles and communication gadgets to local vigilante groups operating in areas affected by banditry, particularly in Birnin Gwari and Giwa local government areas.
Muhammad also credited Shehu Sani with promoting peace and dialogue during communal tensions in Kaduna State, citing his background as a human rights activist.
He said the return of the former senator to the National Assembly would strengthen the APC’s “Renewed Hope” agenda and restore what he called “the people’s voice” in the Red Chamber.
“The Confederation of APC Support Groups stands firmly with Senator Shehu Sani. We are supporting a legacy of activism and accountability,” Muhammad said.
He urged APC support groups across the seven local government areas in Kaduna Central to mobilise at the grassroots in support of the former senator.
“Shehu Sani has always been a voice for the voiceless. Kaduna Central deserves experienced and people-oriented representation once again,” he added.
