A supporter of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, Ahmad Sa’idu, popularly known as Abba, has explained why he held onto the Speaker’s garment during a recent political event in Zaria.
Speaking to journalists in Zaria on Monday, Sa’idu also apologized to the Speaker over the incident, which occurred during Abbas Tajudeen’s declaration for re-election at the Mallawa Eid Ground in Zaria.
According to him, he sustained a severe fracture to his right hand in an accident, leaving the limb broken in three places.
Sa’idu said he initially received treatment at the Traditional Orthopaedic Centre in Likoro and later at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), before he was referred to the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna.
He explained that financial constraints prevented him from continuing with the treatment.
Speaking further, the victim’s father, Malam Sa’idu Ibrahim Abubakar, also apologized to the Speaker and alleged that political opponents had exploited the incident to spread false narratives.
He said the family had struggled for more than two years to finance treatment at both ABUTH and the 44 Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna, but could no longer cope with the medical expenses.
The father, however, commended the Speaker for agreeing to sponsor his son’s medical treatment despite the incident at the event venue.
